Placing Hairy’s Summer Home was quite an adventure. A couple of weeks ago we got together with BS bunch for about 5 hours to design and paint what used to be a 50 caliber ammo box – had a GREAT time. Then life took over for a while. Last Wednesday we met BS bunch for a road trip, about 80 miles, to place the cache. We visited a favorite cache Tortoise Hotel goes North on the way to allow Hairy – Where Ya Goin’ to log some miles before setting out from his summer home to travel the world. Well, less than a mile from the spot where we intended to place the cache, our GPSr whacked out on us (internal error). Of course, we had no backup with us. Tried a few things to get it going again, but were unsuccessful. KINDA DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN CACHE COORDINATES WITHOUT A FUNCTIONING GPSr. We did some sight-seeing on the way back, took the grandsons to some places they had not been before. Spent about 2 hours Thursday morning deleting cache files and updating firmware on the GPSr – SUCCESS! Made a quick trip and placed the cache; stopped at the home of BS bunch on the way back and submitted the cache. Crazy couple of days, not to mention the frustration – but everything worked out well. Hairy’s Summer Home is now in place and Hairy – Where Ya Goin’ has left home to wander. Oh Yeah – we have been caching twice since then, and the GPSr is still functioning properly.
You know, I think Hairy made the gps malfunction... he wanted to spend one more day in his beautiful summer home before being whisked away! :)
